Univision Pushes Title 42 Repeal Despite Increase In Border Drownings

A Univision report on the arrest of migrants and coyotes on both sides of the Rio Grande by US and Mexico authorities morphed into a pitch for the Title of Title 42 but backfired when it only confirmed the migrant avalanche – and further deaths – waiting to happen once the government puts an “end -once and for all- to a rule they consider illegal and racist“.

Watch this example of pro-open borders activism disguised as news reporting that completely misses the mark:

PATRICIA JANIOT: We now go to the detention of coyotes and immigrants on both sides of the Rio Grande between Piedras Negras, Coahuila, and Eagle Pass, Texas. This occurred in a joint operation between Mexican and US agents in order to curb the recent wave of migrant drownings during border crossings.

MARLENE GUZMAN: Raids against human traffickers are intensifying, as part of a joint collaboration between Mexican and US authorities known as Operation Mirror. This weekend, they managed to arrest three coyotes, caught as they were about to cross 18 migrants over in Piedras Negras.

These drownings are clear evidence of the great danger faced by migrants who risk it all crossing from Mexico to the United States. However, these continue to increase.

More and more immigrant groups are risking their lives for a better future, as some migrants are unaware that they could face immediate expulsion which would strip them of the possibility of requesting asylum in the (United States). In a meeting today, pro-immigrant organizations demanded an end -once and for all- to a rule they consider illegal and racist.

While anchor Patricia Janiot opened with the news of the arrests made during “a joint operation between Mexican and US agents in order to curb the recent wave of migrant drownings during border crossings”, reporter Marlene Guzmán pointed out the futility of such an operation, since “…more and more immigrant groups are risking their lives for a better future”. In February alone, 47,007 individuals were apprehended at the southern border and deported under Title 42, more than in January.

If, as she said, the crossings continue to grow while “some migrants are unaware that they could face immediate expulsion which would strip them of the possibility of requesting asylum in the (United States)“, what will happen once the news of the abolition of Title 42 becomes new bait for coyotes?

To give you an idea not only of the massive numbers of people illegally crossing into the US, but also of the lawlessness going on at the southern border, all you have to do is visit the web page of the US Border Patrol; for a sampling, the interception of massive amounts of drugs, arms, arrests of vicious criminals, human smuggling, the list is endless and worse, frightening.

Marlene Guzman has the figures and details of this raid.

HERMELO CASTILLÓN, SEC. OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF PIEDRAS NEGRAS: It has resulted in the desperation of the migrants themselves, because this past week almost five people drowned. One of them was pulled out just yesterday…

GUZMAN: This official is referring to the most recent victim, a man who was tragically swept away by the strong current of the Rio Grande in his attempt to fulfill his desire to reach the United States.

These drownings are clear evidence of the great danger faced by migrants who risk crossing from Mexico into the United States. However, these continue to increase.

In Del Rio a man was lucky enough to be rescued by border patrol agents; they found him unable to walk and disoriented.

BLAIN BOOKEY, DIR. LEGAL WITHIN GENDERS AND REFUGEE STUDIES: There is really no justification for this Title 42 policy and the policy should end and (unintelligible)

GUZMAN: Today marks two years since the implementation of the controversial Title 42, a public health statute under which 47,007 migrants were expelled last February, according to a report by the Customs and Border Patrol; an increase compared to the month of January.

BOOKEY: Two years with the border closed and people are living in very dangerous situations- the people are desperate.

GUZMAN: In Mission, Texas, Marlene Guzman, Univision.
